Easy Tomato and Peppers Egg Shakshuka Recipe
Easy Tomato and Pepper Egg Shakshuka Recipe, featuring smoked paprika, fresh garden peppers, and tomatoes, is a delightful dish that suits any season!
What Is Shakshuka?
Shakshuka is a nutritious and flavorful dish that comes together in just one skillet.
It features Perfectly Poached Eggs nestled in a zesty blend of tomatoes, either spicy or sweet peppers, along with fresh herbs and cheese.
For my version of Shakshuka, I prefer to top it off with Feta or Manchego cheese. Adding olives enhances the dish further!
What Meal Is Shakshuka Served For?
Though typically enjoyed at breakfast or brunch, it makes an excellent choice for a light summer dinner when paired with Turkish Simit Bread, Spanakopita, or a homemade Loaf of Olive Bread.
Having grown up in a household influenced by Mediterranean flavors, these ingredients were often staples in our kitchen.
After a long day at work or when unexpected guests arrive, this dish shines as it can be whipped up in under 30 minutes.
Who Doesn’t Love Eggs!
With more than a dozen eggs often found in my fridge, this recipe is a go-to option for those evenings when dinner hasn’t been planned.
The eggs poach beautifully atop the tomato and pepper mixture, soft enough to warrant a good bread for dipping.
Honestly, I could probably enjoy eggs for a light meal nearly every evening.
In fact, I have some fantastic egg recipes that you’ll surely adore in my Egg Obsession collection.
Easy Egg Shakshuka Recipe For The Health Conscience
Rich in vitamin C from tomatoes and peppers, easy-to-digest protein from eggs, and a host of health benefits from fresh herbs, all simmered in a single skillet.
When prepared with fresh ingredients, Shakshuka becomes a delightful and wholesome meal, suitable for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Easy Tomato Sauce
Of course, you can open a can or jar of store-bought tomato sauce for this shakshuka dish.
Or perhaps during the summer, you preserved some cherry or berry tomatoes and tucked them away in your freezer.
After all, those sweet little tomatoes may not be ideal for sandwiches or slicing on a burger, but I’ve got a fantastic use for those tiny treasures.
With a quick sauté in a hot skillet, a few herbs, salt, and garlic, you can really enhance the flavors of those small tomatoes.
Blend them in a food processor, and in under ten minutes, you’ll have a delicious homemade tomato sauce!

Peppers In Egg Shakshuka Recipe
Peppers are low in calories, packed with vitamins A and C, and bring amazing flavor to dishes.
The choice of peppers is entirely up to you, depending on your taste preferences.
Sweet bell peppers in shakshuka create a delightful contrast with the tomatoes. Roasted peppers can also add an extra depth of flavor.
If you want to take your shakshuka to another level, consider adding some spicy peppers or a touch of harissa paste along with the tomatoes.
Easy Food Prep Egg Shakshuka
For those with busy schedules, prepping meals in advance during the weekend allows for quick, healthy options during hectic weekdays.
You can easily prepare shakshuka by caramelizing onions, adding a mix of chopped peppers and tomatoes, then chilling and saving for a quick weekday meal.
When it’s time to eat, simply place the pre-cooked tomatoes in a cast iron pan or baking dish, crack in those beautiful raw eggs, and cook in a hot oven until they are perfectly poached. It’s that easy!
Perfect For A Brunch Party
When we think of brunch parties, we often picture an array of carbs: pastries, breads, waffles, and more.
However, this dish is an excellent choice that many appreciate for its nutritious and delicious components!
I invested in several small, single-serve cast iron pans that were too affordable to pass up. They have become indispensable!
Serving individual portions of Shakshuka to each guest is not only impressive, but also incredibly easy for you.
A Winning Shakshuka On The Great American Recipe
Cooking competitions on television are thrilling yet stressful at the same time. The challenge is to finish a flawless dish within the time limit!
In Episode 2 (Season 1) of The Great American Recipe, a culinary cultural showcase by PBS, I crafted a winning Shakshuka dish and Herb Pita Bread all within 60 minutes!
What was I thinking? The result was fantastic, and yours will be too.
What To Serve With Shakshuka
When preparing this dish for a brunch or luncheon, I often make a homemade bread, like Pumpkin Pita bread.
Since peppers and pumpkins are harvested around the same time, they complement each other wonderfully.
You can also serve sides at the table, such as cheese, olives, or even pre-cooked bacon or sausage.
