Game Day Good Eats – White Bean Black Bean Soup

Prepare two delicious, contrasting soups for game day; a fantastic way to support both teams!

Black or White Bean Soup Recipes

Hosting friends for game day? Whether it’s football, tennis, or the Olympics, we all have our preferred teams cheering for victory.

I often realize that when planning food for a get-together, not everyone has the same tastes anymore.

I figured there would be enough rivalry on the screen, so why let the food create competition too!

With a simple soup base, I whipped up white bean and black bean soups, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

And as if choosing between black or white soup wasn’t enjoyable enough, I also baked a Black Olive Bread that everyone can appreciate!

Of course, there will be plenty of dips, chips, and veggie sticks, along with an abundance of beer and wine.

Yet, I wanted to ensure there was also a substantial, hearty, and nutritious option available.

My approach for the meal was inspired by Yin and Yang, featuring a robust Spicy Hot Black Bean Soup – Yang, and a gently flavored White Bean and Chicken Soup – Yin.

A large loaf of Black Olive Homemade Bread perfectly complemented both soups, and it was prepared ahead of time, before the game day event.

Homemade bone broth is always kept in my freezer, so these two contrasting soups can be quickly prepared and kept warm on the stove until serving, or guests can help themselves.

Black Bean Soup

Black Bean Soup serves as my Yang option, bursting with flavor. Earthy Black Rice and Black Beans combined with spicy chilies and smoked salt make this dish perfect for a chilly evening!

While dried chili flakes can add heat to this soup, fresh chopped chilies offer not only spice but also a vibrant zing that dried ones lack.

Recently, I’ve had a surplus of chilies from my summer garden stocked in my freezer.

I enjoy the extra flavor they add to various yin dishes, and I’ve even begun smoking and drying my own Paprika with them.

White Bean Soup

Using leftover chicken or a rotisserie chicken, this White Bean and Chicken Soup comes together in no time.

White beans, with their mild flavor and creamy texture, are perfect paired with poultry or simply loaded with fresh vegetables in a rich broth.

All you need are the recipes for these two Black and White Soups, along with some crusty bread, or you can bake my Olive Bread.

Black And White Dessert?

Well… how about something in brown and beige! My favorite cookie combination features a grid-like dough that blends both coffee and chocolate flavors baked into two colors.

I’d say a perfect dessert to pair with a black and white bean soup meal would be these Chocolate and Coffee Cookies!

I am all about the gratification of the senses, and so I have become passionate about capturing the stimuli for my senses through videography and photography. Food provides some of the most alluring subject matter to capture on film, and videography does what a still shot can not do: capture sound. When you hear something sizzling, or pouring, your taste buds and sense of smell are already engaged.

I believe the table… that place that draws people to gather, is the most powerful symbol of togetherness. All that happens before the table is set, the planning, the gathering, the preparing, are all an intricate part of the dance that create the mood of celebration to share with friends and loved ones.
